Gum grafts

Grafts are needed when gums are not the right thickness or height. If the root becomes exposed or the enamel is weakened, teeth become hypersensitive. There are several grafting techniques to remedy gingival recession. As soon as you notice signs of gingival recession, book an appointment to prevent the formation of cavities, hot and cold sensitivity and, ultimately, bone or tooth loss.

Main causes of gingival recession:

  • Improper brushing technique
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Gum disease
  • Tooth grinding
  • Thinned gums

If you notice that one or several of your teeth are very sensitive, make an appointment right away. We will assess your dental health and recommend the right treatment plan for you.

AlloDerm grafts

Gingival recession is very common in adults and generally results from vigorous brushing. This problem needs to be treated as soon as possible to avoid more serious consequences, such as bone and tooth loss.

Gum grafts aim to restructure gums and cover the exposed root of the tooth. This minimizes tooth hypersensitivity and corrects any cosmetic defects. Contrary to traditional gum grafts, AlloDerm grafts are relatively painless, since the tissue is not taken from the patient’s palate. The procedure uses AlloDerm tissue, which is created from donated tissue that has been treated using a patented lyophilisation process.

Advantages of AlloDerm grafts:

  • Healthier and less painful
  • Does not require grafts from the patient’s palate
  • Gum tissue regenerates faster
  • Lower risk of discomfort and infection
  • No risk of inflammation or graft rejection
